Yolanda Varela (March 30, 1930 – August 29, 2009) stands among the most celebrated actresses of Mexican cinema’s golden era. Born in Mexico, she discovered her passion for performance early, training in ballet at the National Institute of the Performing Arts before transitioning to film. Her talent quickly propelled her to leading roles in both Mexican productions and Spanish-Mexican co-productions.

Among her most memorable films is *Dos tipos de cuidado* (1953), where she shared the screen with icons Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete. She also delivered a powerful performance in *El Niño y el Muro* (1965), a drama exploring segregation and violence in Western Europe. Directed by Ismael Rodríguez and shot in East Berlin, the film showcased her range as an actress. Her other notable works include *Llamas Contra el Viento*.

Throughout her career, Varela worked alongside a constellation of stars, including Daniel Gélin, Arturo de Córdova, Jorge Mistral, Manolo Fábregas, Ernesto Alonso, Pedro Vargas, and Fernando Soler. She met her husband, film producer Fernando de Fuentes Reyes, while working on the film *Lo que le Pasó a Sansón*.
